Singapore AeroPress Championship pairs an open format with structured practice

The Singapore AeroPress Championship takes place on 22 October 2026 from 17:00 to 22:00 at Refinery @ The Foundry. Host Bettr says all 48 competitor places have been filled, while spectator entry is free. The winner earns the right to represent Singapore at the World AeroPress Championship in Mexico City in December.

The format uses 12 first-round heats of four, three semi-finals and a three-person final. Brewers have five minutes and may use up to 20 grams of coffee to present at least 150 grams of drink. Three judges taste blind and select the cup they prefer rather than awarding presentation points.

The organiser is also standardising important variables. Competitors must use a Comandante C40 MK4 grinder, Hario kettle and supplied competition water. Practice sessions are offered before the event, and competitors receive coffee from the same roast batch and profile used for the competition.

This combination makes the event especially useful for education. Identical coffee, water and core equipment do not remove every variable, but they help readers focus on grind, temperature, ratio, agitation and timing. Bettr also promotes a separate two-hour AeroPress workshop with no prerequisites, linking competition excitement to accessible learning.

A strong follow-up article should collect several finalist recipes and test them blind with the same coffee. The winning method should not be presented as universally best: changes in coffee, water and grinder can alter the result. The value lies in understanding each decision and learning how to adjust it.

Coffee-Explorer tip

Change one brewing variable at a time. Competition recipes become useful only when you can identify which adjustment changed the cup.
