Transcend Coffee turns a 20-year sourcing relationship into a film premiere

Transcend Coffee will mark its 20th anniversary with the public premiere of ORIGIN: The Legal Maverick & The Micro-Mill Revolution on 14 October 2026 in Edmonton. The documentary by filmmaker Mike Wivell follows founder Poul Mark and his relationship with Francisco Mena of Exclusive Coffees in Costa Rica.
The film explores the development of Transcend alongside Costa Rica’s independent micro-mill movement. That makes the event more than a brand retrospective: it offers a way to discuss how long-term buyer-producer relationships, processing independence and storytelling interact in specialty coffee.
The official event page lists a 7–9 p.m. screening at Ritchie Market’s upstairs Campio Brewing space, with capacity limited to 100 guests. General admission is CAD 20; a CAD 45 option includes a 300-gram bag of Sumava Black Cherry. Poul Mark will host a tasting of the featured coffee after the film.
Coffee-Explorer tip
When a coffee story centres on a long relationship, look for evidence from both buyer and producer rather than relying on one brand’s timeline.
