World of Coffee Panama brings the World Barista Championship closer to origin

World of Coffee Panama will take place at the Panama Convention Center from 23 to 25 October 2026. The organiser lists opening hours of 11:00–18:00 on Friday and Saturday and 11:00–17:00 on Sunday. The 2026 World Barista Championship begins one day earlier and runs from 22 to 25 October.

The World Coffee Championships says this is the first World of Coffee trade show in Central America. More than 50 national champions are expected to compete in the World Barista Championship, preparing espresso, milk drinks and signature beverages before expert judges.

The location changes the editorial centre of gravity. Producers from Latin America and the Caribbean can meet buyers and equipment companies closer to origin, while visitors can examine how farm, variety, processing, roasting and service are connected. Panama’s Geisha reputation will attract attention, but the event also offers a chance to cover other Panamanian coffees and neighbouring origins.

Coffee-Explorer should separate trade-show reporting from competition results. Before the final, useful coverage includes exhibitor discoveries, education sessions and the coffees chosen by competitors. Winner claims and recipes should only be published after the official championship announcement.

A practical reporting plan would follow one coffee through three perspectives: producer, roaster and barista. For the shop, a small origin feature could pair verified coffees with maps and brewing guidance, but availability, harvest information and traceability need to be confirmed with each supplier.

Coffee-Explorer tip

At a championship, note the coffee and recipe before the score. A winning result is more useful when readers can understand what was actually prepared.
