Coffee prices in 2004…
At the beginning / middle December 2004 the prices on the American market greatly increased. The giants “Kraft Foods (Maxwell House)” and “Proctor and Gamble (Folgers Coffee)” started with price increases of up to 15%. Almost all the other “big ones” e.gSara Lee ( Chock full 0`Nuts ) ,Hill`s Brothers followed . The increasing raw coffee prices ( up to 50% since the beginning of the year ) and the poor harvest prognosis ( Brasil `05: up to minus 20% // Vietnam `05 up to minus 30% ) have caused the rise in prices since November 2002

. The coffee producers in Europe resp.German speaking areas have the same argument. So it is to be expected that the free fall of prices since 2002 will at last come to a stop and there will be a rise of 1 Euro to 1.40 Euros per kilo It was difficult to keep the price fall in previous months due to the rising raw coffee prices. In Germany the 500g package was being offered at its lowest price since 50 years ago. Furthermore rising raw oil prices ( packaging sector) and rising energy and personnel costs are also affecting the prices. However some price rises have been compensated by the continuing weak dollar.
