Riedel Espresso…
Coffee originates from the Middle East, where the tradition is to serve both coffee and tea in glass vessels. The first cup of coffee to be brewed in the Western World was in Vienna, in 1683, following the defeat of the Turks. . The saucer features an indent in which the handle rests, so that the cup does not move or shake. The textured handle is the main design feature: it does not transmit heat from the contents of the cup, thereby making it very comfortable to hold. What is surprising when serving espresso in crystal, is the verity of the colors, otherwise hidden by non-translucent materials. The liquid is dark brown and the foam light brown. The clear, transparent cup attracts the eye, highlighting the colors of well-made espresso. Most cups feature shapes with wide rims and narrow bottoms, which diminish the intensity of aromas. The straight shape of Riedel Espresso protects and enhances the delicate coffee aromas. The Riedel Espresso cup and saucer are machine-made, executed in 24% lead crystal. Liquid crystal, at a temperature of 950 degrees Celsius, is pressed into multiple-piece molds. The liquid glass cools quickly and becomes solid, while at the same time the surface is fire-polished to create a perfect shine and melt the fine seams created by the mold . To avoid glass tension and ensure that the extreme heat will not influence the long-term durability of the glass, crystal has to be cooled very carefully to room temperature. Riedel has created an other perfect instrument for Espresso, made Italian style: dark roast, short, strong, hot, no sugar. Enjoy!
