TRIESTE ESPRESSO EXPO 2010

Preparations are in full swing in Trieste, which is readying itself for the 5th edition of the TriestEspresso Expo, scheduled for 28 to 30 October this year. The event, organised by Fiera Trieste in collaboration with the Associazione Caffè, is set to attract top entrepreneurs from the entire industry chain at world level to Trieste in Italy.

The 2010 edition is very much awaited by all operators in the sector, keen to focus in on the latest on this market, which appears to have bypassed the crisis: in fact, over the last five years the world market in coffee has actually been in continuous growth, in terms of both value and volume.

“The sector of espresso coffee,” notes the president of Fiera Trieste Spa, Fulvio Bronzi, “is seeing growth in all geographical areas, with the Italian industry certainly in a lead position. In this edition we will also be building up collaboration with the scientific world here, to give all Expo participants an overview of the new trends in technology and all that’s new from studies of the plant’s genetics.”

And TriestEspresso Expo’s numbers are also in constant growth . The previous edition in 2008 saw a rise in exhibition areas of 37.5%, visitors came from 79 countries, operators from abroad represented 41% of the total, while journalists reporting on the event had accreditation from 17 different countries.

“For the 2010 edition too numbers are set to continue this trend,” continues Bronzi, “and in parallel there is a rise in the richness and effectiveness of the event, which can catalyse business deals worth millions of euros; 70% of the exhibition areas are already taken – this is a highly specialised trade fair, covering the whole espresso sector, and boasts a level of exhibitor loyalty of over 87%.”

It is not by chance that this sector has developed in Trieste: there are more than 50 established businesses here, with a turnover of euro 500 million and employing over 900 people. In 2008 there was an overall importation to Italy of 7,477,166 sacks, around 27% of which came through the customs of Trieste

. In addition, an estimate of the transit figure for raw coffee (foreign country to foreign country, i.e. not imported into Italy) passing through the free zone of Trieste is around 2,000,000 sacks per year. In fact, Trieste is the Mediterranean’s leading port, with a traffic in coffee equal to a notable 15% of the entire national figure.

Here too the industrial coffee district (Trieste Coffee Cluster) has been established, its goals focused on achieving top quality in Italian espresso coffee, and awareness-raising and promotion of its image, targeting also the emerging markets.
